Seat-pick: the rows that actually work on Hawaii routes
A short editorial guide to the seats that consistently come up in our reader mailbag. No SeatGuru rip-off — just patterns we've seen ourselves.
Hawaiian Airlines — A330-200 (LAX/SFO/SEA → HNL)
- Best economy: rows 28A and 28K — extra legroom by the over-wing exit, no recline ahead.
- Avoid: row 16 (galley wall pressure on long legs) and 44 (last row, no recline, lavatory traffic).
- Extra Comfort row to grab: 18 — bulkhead, full pitch, bassinet position only when explicitly chosen.
Hawaiian Airlines — Boeing 717 (inter-island)
- Best economy on a 35-minute hop: doesn't matter much — total legroom is ample for the duration.
- Bag stress: overhead bins are smaller than mainline; gate-check is common on bag-heavy days.
United — Boeing 777-200 (SFO → HNL, LAX → HNL)
- Economy Plus rows to grab: 20 and 21 — bulkhead, full IFE box-free pitch.
- Avoid: row 16 in standard economy (limited recline).
Delta — Boeing 757-200 (SEA → HNL)
- Comfort+: rows 10–13 are the only meaningful upgrade; first class is small but a real lie-flat-ish recline.
- Avoid: row 24 (galley adjacency on early-morning return).
Alaska — Boeing 737-900ER (SEA/PDX → HNL/OGG)
- Premium Class rows to grab: rows 6–9. Row 16 exit is decent in standard economy.
- Avoid: row 33 (last row, no recline).
How to choose without our help
Carrier seat maps are live at the partner sites you open from our catalog. Use SeatGuru or AeroLOPA for granular layout reviews; our intent here is editorial pattern-spotting, not a comprehensive seat database.
